Stomach Cancer Diagnosis
If you suspect you have stomach cancer, it is best to get it diagnosed first. You should have the experts on you when it comes to stomach cancer diagnosis procedures and such. Only they would be able to confirm that you indeed have this type of cancer or that you are only experiencing peptic ulcer. Now, you might ask: just who can I run to when I need confirmation that I do have this kind of cancer? The answer for that is simple and that is to your own doctor.
Other than your doctor knowing more of your history—medical history to be exact—he can also order some procedures done on you for stomach cancer diagnosis. The most common would be the physical exam. Here, your doctor uses his hands and some other little diagnostic tools to see whether you’ve undergone some changes in your stomach area. He can tell just by what he does if there are changes in your stomach fluid or if there is swelling and some others. Lymph nodes that have become swollen at this time will also be checked by your doctor.
Next, we have the Endoscopy. Here, a lighted tube that is thin called the endoscope is used by the doctor to take a quick look at what’s happening in your stomach. This procedure may make you sore at some point so there might be some anaesthetics offered you in such cases. This thin tube is, after all, used to look into what’s going on in your stomach by letting it pass through the mouth and the esophagus until it finally reaches your stomach.
After the physical exam and the endoscopy, we have the biopsy. While an endoscope is used to check on the happenings in your stomach, what is done during biopsy is that some tissue is checked for the presence of cancer cells under any decent microscope. This is usually done by the pathologist. If you know one good pathologist, you may want to visit him for biopsy if you think you do have stomach cancer. Many say that it is jus through biopsy that one can really be sure that he has the disease. This is because this is the only test or diagnostic procedure that can tell us whether there are cancerous cells present in us or none.
Now, these tests may cost a lot. You’ll definitely need to go through these series tests under stomach cancer diagnosis so you know whether you have it or not.
