Colon Cancer Symptoms
The colon is a very vital part of the body which is quite instrumental in the digestive process. Any adverse effects on this part will usually lead to a series of changes in the body since it will affect the body’s ability to absorb nutrients, water and minerals. The colon is also quite important when it comes to ridding the body of waste materials and therefore when colon cancer attacks the body, there are a number of colon cancer symptoms that are bound to show up.
One of the commonest colon cancer symptoms that usually shows up is the alteration in bowel habits. If one has been having a particular routine when it comes to bowel movements, the colon cancer will affect this routine and as a result there will be a change in the system. These bowel movements will therefore become either more frequent or less frequent, depending on the effect of the colon cancer.
Another common symptom among the colon cancer symptoms is the presence of constipation. In simple terms, constipation refers to bowel movements that are quite difficult to pass and are often quite infrequent. It is usually a cause of defecation that is painful and sometimes it can be quite severe and even lead to obstipation which is the failure to pass stool or gas whatsoever.
One other symptom among the colon cancer symptoms is the emergence of diarrhea. This is a condition that describes a situation where there are liquid bowel movements that are very frequent and in most cases number three or more times a day. It is a leading cause of death in many countries and is one of the symptoms of the presence of colon cancer.
The stool that is passed by someone who is suffering from colon cancer tends to have stains of bright red or dark red. This is one of the colon cancer symptoms present whenever the disease begins to manifest. Also, the stool of someone suffering from colon cancer tends to be thinner than usual. It usually creates a feeling as if one can not empty their bowels at all.
There are other symptoms of this cancer like weight loss which comes even without someone consciously planning to lose any weight. Also, there is massive loss of appetite and on several occasions one is not able to complete meals and there is very little urge to eat. In addition, there is usually a lot of tiredness and fatigue which can often not be explained.
Nausea and vomiting also tend to appear as some of the colon cancer symptoms that might be visible when someone is suffering from colon cancer. This is at times coupled with anemia where the red blood cell count is quite low and there is insufficient iron within the blood system.
Someone suffering from colon cancer tends to have a lot of discomfort in their midsection, around the abdomen. They also encounter bloating and there is frequent gas pain and at times this is coupled with cramps.
