Colon Cancer Causes
Colon cancer is basically a cancer that attacks the colon or large intestines. It is usually a tumor that begins to develop on the inside of the colon and it can spread even further and become quite fatal if not handled early enough. There are several colon cancer causes but most of them are looked at as being backed by risk factors. As a matter of fact, the exact cause of colon cancer is somewhat unknown. However there are risk factors that are looked at as causes. This means that the colon cancer causes can not stand alone but are usually instigated or encouraged by other factors and together they are known as the risk factors.
One of the top most colon cancer causes is the factor of age. It must be clearly understood that age does not cause colon cancer per say. It only aggravates the situation and puts one more in danger of catching the cancer. Usually by the age of 50, one in every four people will have developed the colon cancer. This goes to show that as much as age might not be a stand-alone cause of colon cancer, it is a top risk factor.
Another of the colon cancer causes is over consumption of alcohol. Research has brought to light that people who consume alcohol more regularly are more likely to suffer from colon cancer. There is however some other research which seems to point to the fact that alcohol actually does reduce and in some cases completely do away with the colon cancer altogether.
Diabetes is one of the key factors for people who are worried about colon cancer. Usually, people who are suffering under the problems of diabetes tend to have plenty of problems that have to do with colon cancer along with a host of other cancers. Research has revealed that dependency on insulin usually means that there are 40% more chances of people who are diabetics to develop about it.
The issue of dieting is one that many people usually under look when trying to keep in shape. One thing that they do not know is that the issue of diet can make or break someone. A diet that is high in fat as well as cholesterol mostly from the animal sources tends to create suitable environment for development of the colon cancer.
There are some other colon cancer causes that are not as prominent as those already mentioned. Factors like race, ethnic inclination as well as social status have some kind of hold they can have on someone. Medical history of one’s family, the environment, gender and genetics are some of the other colon cancer causes that are known to aggravate the situation. These different factors contribute to the development of the colon cancer which ends up spreading even further. Apart from the mentioned causes, there are others like the lack of exercise, having the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), the problem of obesity and smoking. As already mentioned, these colon cancer causes can not exactly create the cancer but they make it easier for someone to develop the disease.
